Accessible Volunteering It is a priority of York CAB to make volunteering accessible to all member's of the community. York CAB is particularly interested in volunteers who are black or from ethnic minorities. This is because black and ethnic minorities, are underrepresented in the staff, volunteers and users of York CAB. Volunteer Opportunities Advisor As an advisor you will be meeting all kinds of people as they come into the bureau. You will be involved in interviewing clients, giving them information, advising them on the options available to them, offer practical help such as filling in a form or making phone calls and recording the whole process. To get the most out of becoming an advisor it is recommended that you are available to volunteer either a full day at the bureau or two half sessions. The training program can take up to a year so you will have to make a long-term commitment to the bureau. Reception As a receptionist at the bureau you will oversee the waiting room, welcome clients and people for meetings, pass on information about the bureau to enquirers, answer the telephone bookings line and other relevant duties. For this post we ask people to be able to offer one regular morning or afternoon a week. The post comes with a full induction and the opportunity for further training. Admin As an admin volunteer at the bureau you will be involved in the day-to-day running of the office. The work you could be doing is varied and you will find yourself working with a number of different staff and volunteers in the bureau. Any general office skills or experience would be useful but isn't essential. Social Policy As a social policy volunteer you will play an active role in researching and presenting the social policy work of the bureau. This post is an exciting opportunity for anyone with an interest in Social Policy to make a real difference. The post has flexibility for projects of personal interest to you, given our social policy agenda, this may be preparing a written report or gathering evidence for further research.
