Supporting Your Bureau

As a registered charity the bureau operates under stringent financial constraints, in some cases funders place restrictions on the work we are able to undertake. As a consequence of this we are grateful for all donations. Donations allow the bureau to be more flexible in service delivery as they have no conditions on what they can be used for.

Please donate unwanted mobile phones to the Bureau. These are sent for recycling and can raise up to £4.00 per phone.

There are a number of other schemes whereby donations can be given in a way that helps the bureau:

Gift Aid Scheme

If you pay tax, Gift Aid is a scheme by which you can give a sum of money to charity and the charity can reclaim from the Inland Revenue basic rate tax on your gift. That increases the value of the gift you make to the charity. For example, if you gave £10.00 using Gift Aid in the tax year 2000/01, that gift would have been worth £12.82 to the charity.

Subject to a few rules, you can give any amount, large or small, regular or one-off and the charity can reclaim the tax.

For a gift to qualify for Gift Aid, you must:

  • Pay as much tax as the charity will reclaim in the tax year in which you make it; and
  • Make a declaration to the charity that you want your gift to be treated as a Gift Aid donation; and
  • Not receive excessive benefits in return for your gift.

Payroll Giving Scheme

This is a simple way for you to give regularly to charity from your pay and get tax relief on your gift. The Government is adding a further 10% to all such donations (for three years from April 2000).

There are no limits as to how much you can give; it is entirely up to you.

Community Interaction

York and District CAB is keen to interact with the community it serves. If you feel that the CAB could be doing more to interact with your community please e-mail admin@yorkcab.org.uk with a summary of what you would like the bureau to be doing and we will be in touch to see how we could make this happen.

Some examples of what we could do are;

  • Outreach Advice Session - If you feel that your organisation or community would benefit from an outreach session please contact us with details. We will then work with you to identify possible sources of funding for this outreach.
  • Talks and Presentations - The Bureau is happy to attend events, meetings and forums to talk about the work it does. If your group would like a talk/presentation/display please contact us with plenty of notice and details of the event and we will endeavour to attend.
  • Partnership Work - If there is a piece of work or a project that you are developing and would like to do this in partnership with the CAB please contact us and we will be happy to meet with you and talk about the project and how we could work together.
